Research-based master’s courses in the UK include the Master of Research (MRes), Master of Philosophy (MPhil), and Master of Science (MSc) by Research. These courses allow students to conduct independent research projects under the guidance of a supervisor.
The Master of Research (MRes) is primarily a research-focused degree, with about 60% to 70% of the course dedicated to an independent research project. Unlike a Master of Science (MSc) or a Master of Arts (MA), which typically focus more on taught modules, the MRes is ideal for those who aim to build expertise in research methodologies and techniques.
Different universities may use different terms, but the focus is always on research. Some degrees, such as the “MA by Research” or “MSc by Research,” might also include taught components, while others are more research-intensive
Do we need a research proposal to study the MRes program at the UK University?
There are some UK Universities, that will not ask for research proposals to get admission into an MRes program.
For Example: University of Wolverhampton
